Northern Territory: NTCET, Subjects, Assessment & ATAR
The NTCET uses SACE subjects and assessment infrastructure, but is a distinct territory qualification. The compulsory subjects are not exactly the same as in South Australia, though. Use an NTCET checklist rather than copying a SACE one.

Certificate requirements
At least 200 credits are required, including literacy (20), numeracy (10), Stage 1 EIF (10) and at least 60 Stage 2 credits, with prescribed achievement standards. You will see this described in current NTCET guidance as 100 compulsory and 100 non-compulsory credits.
Subjects, school assessment and external assessment
Stage 1 is school assessed; Stage 2 generally uses 70% school and 30% external assessment. External work may include performances or investigations rather than only examinations. For the actual number of tasks and their deadlines, look at the subject and school assessment plan.
Which results contribute to the ATAR?
SATAC calculates the ATAR using the eligible 90-credit Stage 2 pattern also used for SACE applicants. This is where the two requirements can diverge: enough Stage 2 credits to finish the NTCET may still not be enough for an ATAR.
Changing subjects between Years 11 and 12
Choose from locally offered SACE subjects, VET and recognised learning. If you are considering distance or external study, ask your school how enrolment, assessment and credit recognition would work before signing up. Preserve mathematics/science prerequisites and language progression where needed.
What to keep handy
- The current school course handbook, assessment schedules and official enrolment list.
- Separate certificate/ATAR eligibility audits, course-prerequisite records and any language-eligibility approvals.
Use the state comparison and subject selection guide to put this pathway in context.
