What do academic tests include?

Music, sport and all-rounder awards involve more than a test

A practical preparation timeline

A timeline beginning two years before entry
  1. 01

Check schools, entry years, residency and current/external eligibility

  2. 02

Organise reports, NAPLAN, activity evidence and music grades

  3. 03

Use official samples as a baseline and address reading, mathematics, reasoning and writing gaps

  4. 04

Complete both the school application and test-provider registration where required

  5. 05

If shortlisted, prepare the interview, audition and portfolio

  • Focus on reading unfamiliar tasks accurately and making decisions under time, not memorising past questions.
  • Practise understanding the prompt, planning, using specific detail and editing within the time limit.
  • For interview, explain not only why the award is wanted but why that school fits and what the student will contribute.
  • Scholarship response deadlines may precede selective-school outcomes, so discuss costs and priorities in advance.
