US applications bring together more than one exam result. Here is how grades, activities, essays and university-specific requirements fit into the process.

Common App is a platform, not a university
Common App lets you send core information to several participating universities. It saves repetition, but not every university uses it, and each can ask for extra questions, essays, portfolios or fees. An Australian state qualification also does not replace the academic records each college asks for.
Grades, course choices and school context
Institutions may review achievement over several school years, course rigor in context and final or predicted results. Year 11 can matter even where it does not directly enter the ATAR. Rather than trying to convert your marks into a GPA yourself, follow the instructions for submitting original results and the school’s grading scale.
Distinguish SAT/ACT from English-proficiency tests
SAT/ACT requirements—including required or optional policies—vary by institution and cycle. TOEFL/IELTS serve a different purpose: showing English proficiency. Taking an academic test does not automatically remove the language-test requirement, or vice versa. English-medium Australian schooling exemptions have their own duration and program conditions.

Use concrete evidence in activities and essays
Keep a record of what you did over time, your own contribution and what you learned—not just the title of the activity. Give teachers plenty of notice when asking for references. Many early deadlines occur around November and regular deadlines around January, but the university and scholarship deadlines are the ones to follow.
