Apply for a course, not just a university name
For a UK application, you normally start with the course you want to study and show how you have prepared for it. UCAS generally permits up to five choices, with additional restrictions for subjects such as medicine and for Oxford/Cambridge. Different courses at one university may be separate choices; check the intake-specific rules.
Australian qualifications and required subjects
You need two pages side by side: the international-qualification guidance and the page for your chosen course. Requirements may include certificate completion, specified subject results, mathematics/science preparation and admissions tests as well as an ATAR. Oxford lists an ATAR of 98.50 plus the relevant Year 12 qualification for Australia; this does not replace course-specific subject or selection requirements.

The equal-consideration deadline tells you when a qualifying application needs to be in to receive equal consideration. Later consideration depends on vacancies and the institution. School reference/approval deadlines and admissions-test registration may be earlier than the UCAS submission deadline.
The personal statement now has three questions
From 2026 entry, the personal statement uses three questions addressing motivation, preparation through study and preparation outside education. An old single-essay template will therefore need adapting. Use the questions to explain your relevant experience and understanding of the subject.
Read every condition of an offer
A conditional offer may specify final qualification, ATAR, subject and English results. Check final-result delivery, firm/insurance choices and reply deadlines. Clearing lets you explore courses with available places. It does not guarantee a place on the course you want.
