Canadian Universities: Provincial Routes, Subjects & English Requirements
OUAC is a familiar name in Canadian admissions, but it is not a national service. Your application route depends on the province and university.

Application routes depend on province and university
OUAC handles applications to Ontario universities. If you are considering a university elsewhere, such as UBC, follow that institution’s application route instead. A deadline for Ontario school students need not apply identically to Australian applicants; check category, qualification and program guidance.
Required subjects depend on the degree
Beyond the Australian qualification, degrees may specify advanced mathematics, physics, chemistry or other subjects. Check transcripts, predictions, final results and supplements such as a personal profile. There is no single domestic GPA rule that you can simply plug an ATAR into.
An example: UBC’s English standard
UBC provides multiple ways to meet its undergraduate English Language Admission Standard. One test route is IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0. Eligible English-medium schooling may also qualify, subject to duration, location and evidence rules. This is a UBC example, not a score requirement shared by every Canadian university or program.
Deadlines and conditional admission
Fall-entry applications commonly run from the preceding autumn into the start of the entry year, with separate evidence, English and scholarship deadlines. Offers may require final results and maintained achievement. Keep reply dates and deposit deadlines together when comparing universities; they do not all follow the same schedule.
How to compare options
- Campus, degree and the conditions of options such as co-op, not only university name.
- Costs including tuition, housing, insurance and travel, plus scholarship conditions.
- Subject prerequisites, English requirements and any relationship to professional accreditation.
